Postdoctoral position in pore scale modelling

Marie-Curie Initial Training Network ABYSS (ER2)

Training network on reactive geological systems from the mantle to the abyssal sub-seafloor

Host institution: Géosciences Montpellier (France)

The CNRS offers a postdoc position in the area of Scientific Computing with a focus on X-ray micro-tomography image processing and computed fluid dynamics simulation applied to complex geomaterial study. The position is hosted by Géosciences Montpellier (University of Montpellier-South of France/CNRS) in the frame of the EU-FP7 Marie-Curie Initial Training Network ABYSS. The selected candidate will work as part of the Transfer in Porous Media research group and in close collaboration with the startup company Voxaya on the development of algorithms for multi-resolution imaging, phase recognition, properties assessment of multi-mineral rocks, and fluid dynamics and fluid-mineral reactions computing. He/she will also work in a multidisciplinary and international environment in close collaboration with the other partners of ABYSS.

Qualifications: Candidates must hold Doctoral degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Physical Sciences, or a related subject. (S)he will have acquired a strong experience in programming (C++, parallel computing), is expected to work in a team at the frontier between fundamental and applied research and to communicate his/her science and progresses in the projects both orally and by writing. Important criteria for the selections will be the motivation and the quantifiable evidence of creativeness and productivity in his(her) academic records.

ABYSS brings together 10 European research groups and 4 partners from the private sector; it proposes 12 PhDs (ESR) positions and 3 postdoctoral fellowships (ER).

Recruitment will be an international process based on the principles of the European Charter and Code for Researchers and the eligibility criteria for ITN projects.

A Postdoc candidate (ER) is a researcher who, at the time of recruitment, is: 1) in possession of a doctoral degree, independently of the time taken to acquire it, or has at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience and 2) has less than five years of full-time equivalent research experience. Full-time equivalent research experience means  the research experience measured from the date when a researcher obtained the degree which would formally entitle him or her to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the researcher is recruited or seconded, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate is or was ever envisaged. Candidates  can be of any nationality. At the time of recruitment, he/she must not have resided or carried out his/her main activities in France for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to his/her recruitment.
