Pavel comes from Russia, where he got his MSc degree in Mathematics from Novosibirsk State University. Then he worked for two years at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics and the Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics of Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Science. Later on he went to the Netherlands where he worked on industrial projects and obtained a Professional Doctorate in Engineering at Technische Universiteit Eindhoven. In the ABYSS project, he works on image processing of 3D micro-CT images of rock samples in close collaboration with Voxaya company.

Project Overview

In order to perform geological analysis of high throughput micro-CT data acquired with synchrotron X-ray sources, automatic methods are required. The ER2 project aims to implement such methods. The project focuses particularly on image segmentation and image registration. The results of the project will be employed in the work of ESR8 and of the other ABYSS trainees.
