Scientist

BJørn Jamtveit got is PhD in metamorphic petrology at the University of Oslo in 1990. After three years as a Postdoc student at the University of Bristol, he became Professor of petrology at the University of Oslo in 1993. His fields of interest are: metamorphic processes, fluid rock interactions, kinetics and pattern formation in a variety of disequilibirum systems.

Labuniversitas oslo

The Physics of Geological Process (PGP) is a Norwegian Center of Excellence (25 professors/senior researchers, 20 postdoc/PhD and 15 administrative/technical staff). It is a mixed geoscience-physics basic research unit with expertise ranging from field geology to theory, numerical modelling and experimental approaches. It is funded through research projects by the University of Oslo, the Norwegian Research Council, EU FP7/ERC, and collaborative projects with petroleum industry.

PGP has access to modern analytical (SEM, EMPA, CT-scanner, XRD, XRF) and high performance computer facilities. It also hosts an in-house experimental laboratory. It has developed a strong educational program for training by research; it benefits from the University of Oslo training/housing infrastructure.
