Training network on reactive geological systems from the mantle to the abyssal sub-seafloor

NTNU seeks to appoint a Post-doctoral fellow for a research project in the ore-forming potential of mantle derived ultra-mafic melts and their derivatives. We aim at estimating the properties of economically fertile ultra-mafic melt during ascent from the asthenosphere throughout the lithosphere. This geodynamic situation is excellently exposed in the Seiland Igneous Province (SIP), N.-Norway, which is our primary field laboratory. The successful applicant will study the composition of the parental melts forming one of the Ni-Cu-PGE deposits recently discovered in SIP in close collaboration with Professors R.B. Larsen, S. McEnroe and M. Schanke.

Methods: EPMA, SEM-CL, HT-microthermometry, SIMS, radiogenic isotope geochemistry

Goals: Determining P-T-X of the ultra-mafic melts that formed the Reinfjord Ni-Cu-PGE deposits

Requirements: Candidates must hold PhD in geology/geochemistry

This fellowship is for a period of 20 months starting August 1, 2014.

Conditions of appointment:

The position is remunerated according to the Norwegian State salary scale. Post-doctoral Fellows are normally remunerated at wage level 57 in the State salary scale, gross NOK 473 100 per year (before tax). There will be a 2 % deduction to The Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund from gross salary.

Engagement as a post doctor is done in accordance with “Regulation concerning terms and conditions of employment for the posts of post-doctoral research fellow, research fellow, research assistant and resident”, given by the Ministry of Education and Research of 19.07.2010.
